Are you a highly skilled legal professional looking for an exciting opportunity in the entertainment industry? Theia Productions and North Star Studios, leading production companies in film and television, are seeking a talented and experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join our dynamic team. This role offers a unique chance to work with industry professionals and make a significant impact on the success of our productions.

Position: In-House Legal Counsel Company: Theia Productions and North Star Studios Industry: Film and Television Production 

Location: North Bay or Toronto

Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and support to Theia Productions and North Star Studios on a wide range of matters, including but not limited to, contract negotiations, intellectual property, rights acquisition, production issues, and compliance.

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements, including talent contracts, distribution agreements, licensing agreements, and vendor contracts.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Conduct legal research and stay updated on developments in entertainment law, keeping the company informed of any relevant changes.

  • Assist in managing intellectual property rights, including copyrights, trademarks, and licensing.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as production teams, finance, and marketing, to provide legal guidance and ensure the protection of the company's interests.

  • Identify and mitigate potential legal risks and develop proactive strategies to minimize legal exposure.

  • Handle any legal disputes or claims, working closely with external counsel when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in the relevant jurisdiction.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a legal counsel, preferably within the entertainment or media industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of contract law, intellectual property law, entertainment law, and relevant regulations.

  • Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts and agreements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to navigate through evolving business and legal landscapes.
